The Annual Houston St. Patrick’s Parade

Growing up, my go-to St. Patrick’s Day parade in Houston was always the one on FM 1960. People would come from near and far to enjoy the FM 1960 St. Patricks Day Parade; however, it’s been cancelled every year since 2021.

Houston St Patricks parade

Fortunately, POST Houston hosts a great parade in the heart of downtown Houston over St. Patrick’s Day weekend too that’s definitely worth the drive. Don’t miss a day full of activities beginning with the annual Houston St. Patrick’s Parade.

The parade route begins and ends at POST, with performances, food, and games in the southwest parking lot. The event is free and open to the public so you can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the whole family. The parade lasts two full hours, making it one of the longest parades in the US with 100 entries for people to enjoy.

The Houston St. Patrick’s Day Parade is part of Houston’s history dating back to the 1880s when the parade began at St. Patrick’s Church in “Irish Town.” The parade marched to Market Square for games, music, and food with lots of flags, bands, and marchers. When the parade reached Market Square, people from pubs all over the square joined in the fun. This year, the tradition continues with a free St. Patrick’s Day celebration and parade for everyone!
